Links to Supplies, Techniques & Pre-packaged foods

For browsers of this site who may prefer to purchase pre-packaged stored foods or bulk foods outside of the program, here are links to relevant sites. NRP will be willing to co-ordinate group orders from the following suppliers (saving on shipping costs) if there is sufficient community interest. NRP is not motivated by any political or religious perspective other than the idea of neighbor helping neighbor:

www.grassvalleygrains.com
How we wish we had known about Grass Valley Grains early in the program! Through this site, Nevada Countyites can order local, organically-grown wheat, oats, rye, barley, kidney beans, black beans, and white corn for $1/lb.. organic brown rice for $2/lb. They offer a grain CSA (subscription farming) as well.. and a small local flour mill!

www.preparedirect.com
Essentials for emergencies and adventure. Excellent information and research on food storage. (Studies challenging our previously-cited information that nitrogen packaging will last 10 years.. 3 years may b e closer to true, though plastic-bagging inside buckets extends more life yet again.) Please remember that a good plan employs intention to use and rotate your cached foods (which is much easier to employ using our 5lb nitrogen packaging.. several packets per bucket enables a cache to be opened without compromising the entire bucket). See Shirl Mendonca's letter under Storage Assistance for tips on rotation.

www.Nitro-Pak.com
This site has over 50,000 products in stock, fast shipping, very competitive prices, and is offering a Holiday Preparedness Special (Thoughtful holiday gifting).

www.HomeStyleMercantile.com
This site is an excellent resource for storage supplies and information, as well as bulk foods. The family-owned business offers terrific prices on extra virgin olive oil and certified organic expeller-pressed coconut oil (better than virgin for long-term storage).

www.aaoobfoods.com
This site offers comprehensive, well-priced, pre-packaged, organic bulk and ready-to-eat foods, storage supplies, food-processing equipment, and FEMA Units. They've also compiled storage and preparation information on the use of acorns here, though we strongly recommend participating in Grayson Coney's deeply informed teaching before attempting to put-to-use our local bumper crop. (see Local Food Storage Assistance Information)

www.BePrepared.com
Emergency essentials site

www.PleasantHillGrain.com
LDS food storage packages

www.MontanaMilling.com
Excellent prices on organic bulk grains.. requires a one-ton minimum order.

www.fivestarpreparedness.com
www.TheBucketGuy.com
Pretty amazing prices on storage supplies:
4 gallon used food-grade buckets (square or round) with snap-on lids = $2 each
Square Rubber Gasket re-sealable lids = $2
Mylar Bags (11x16 inches) for these 4 gallon buckets (put 2-3 per bucket)
Oxygen Absorbers (1500 cc) for those bags = $2.50 each set
(Note: If foods are vacuum-sealed in food-grade plastic or mylar bags, it may be sufficient to purchase non-food-grade containers for rodent and heat protection.)

www.SeedsOfSustainability.org
The (for profit) Seeds of Sustainability Education Series details remarkable techniques for sprouting seeds with very little water.
Volume I: The Marche Sprouting Method & Living Oils teaches individuals how to sprout small and massive quantities of fresh and nutritious living vegetables with no rinsing in just 72 hours. The methods were discovered and pioneered by Master Sprout Alchemist, Robin Marche, in a desert environment to decrease the amount of water needed to grow fresh living sprouts from seeds, grains, and legumes. The methods can be used for disaster relief and hunger crises efforts. The method also extends the life of the sprouted vegetables due to the absence of excess moisture. Also introduced are "Living Oils" and how to make them.

www.FriendlyAquaponics.com
New Low-Density Aquaponics System uses one-tenth the energy while producing the same amount of vegetables.
Retains organic certification and best vegetable prices.
New, more efficient and faster sprouting technology.
Economical hatchery technology. Fish management techniques for double the production (without the use of hormones).
Sustainable methane and electricity generation technology that allows truly sustainable commercial food production.
